What is Honeybush?

Honeybush…it looks pretty, smells wonderful, and tastes amazing!

The Cyclopia plant, or more humbly known as Honeybush, has cheery yellow flowers which give off a honey smell, however it is the leaves of this plant which are used for the tea. Quite similar to Rooibos (Red Bush) tea, the leaves can be processed to create fermented orange-brown tea leaves, or left unfermented to produce a lighter, grassier-flavoured, green-tea.

Honeybush is caffeine-free, which means it contains no tannins, and hence has a sweet taste. The green-tea Honeybush will be less sweet, but still more so than Rooibos. Both the fermented and unfermented varieties of Honeybush are also less-earthy in taste, compared to Rooibos, and so considered a softer tea upon one’s palette.

Suggested to be brewed in freshly boiled water, Honeybush can be steeped for five to seven minutes, but longer of desired, as the absence of tannins means the tea will not become astringent (bitter). It is suitable to be re-steeped, and can be used to make delicious cold brew beverages also. Such a trouble-free tea!

Quiescence is the lone of our signature range Personalitea’s which has a Honeybush base, blended with Lavender and Jasmine flowers, and Vanilla flavour. Quiescence is described as a velvety blend of vanilla and floral tastes, suiting individuals needing a moment to soothe their soul, but also those who are naturally mellow. Befitting people who appreciate solitude, this caffeine-free tisane is perfect for the evening wind-down.

This blend of gentle ingredients lends Quiescence suited to individuals who are considered to have the traits of being: dutiful, reliable, reflective, sympathetic, self-aware, modest and at times anxious.
