Not cornflour, but cornflower!
“Cornflour, why do you have cornflour in your tea?” we were inquisitively asked one day. Thankfully with a reassuring giggle, we were able to explain that no, no we don’t, we have the very vibrant (and more palatable) cornflower.
Named as such because the flower often grows in North American cornfields, cornflowers are typically a delightful blue colour. The edible petals of the cornflower plant do range however, to hues of pink, purple and white, and can be used as a natural food dye.
It is Blue Cornflower we include in our Personalitea blends, adding a pop of colour to Sanguine and Resplendent.
Initially brewed into tea for its antioxidant qualities, you may also find comfort in our addition of this ingredient, as it is said to assist in relieving pains and digestion, promote relaxation, reduce fever, and alleviate chest infections.
These little stunners go beyond dyes and tea; cornflower petals have found themselves useful in salads, desserts, as garnishes, and even the subject of great paintings! Vincent van Gogh’s 1890 painting ‘Wheat Field with Cornflowers’ made a name for itself, with several other artists then following suit of this floral subject.
Have you spotted this blue gem in our two Personalitea’s?
